WHAT ACTUALLY MAKES JEWELLERY WATERPROOF?
Certain jewellery materials are more prone to tarnishing or corrosion when exposed to water—especially with frequent or prolonged contact. While waterproof jewellery doesn’t truly exist, some materials handle moisture far better than others.
BRASS & COPPER - these oxidise quickly and can leave those green marks on your skin.
NICKLE BASED ALLOYS- these are cheap and irritating, often tarnish very quickly and are not truly water resistant.
SO WHAT JEWELLERY DOESN'T REACT WITH WATER?
The most important factor in determining whether jewellery is water-resistant comes down to the material it's made from. While no piece can truly be considered waterproof jewellery, certain materials come impressively close.
SOLID GOLD- will not tarnish or rust in water, is super durable and will last you a very long time.
PLATINUM - is heavy, luxurious and totally unbothered by water.
HIGH QUALITY STERLING SILVER - 925 sterling silver is water-resistant and may tarnish over time with exposure, but it can be easily polished back to shine
TITANIUM - is lightweight, hypoallergenic and water safe.
